Dad creates Disney ball

Melinda Murphy

Ava McAloon, a 6-year-old from Seekonk, Massachusetts, was looking forward to her school’s father-daughter dance.

Unfortunately, the event, which had a perfect Disney theme, was canceled this year because of the novel coronavirus. When Ava’s parents, Janelle and Josh, saw how disappointed their little one was, they knew they had to find a way to make her smile.

“We had already picked out dresses for it,” Janelle said. “My husband mentioned we should do one for her at home. Of course, me being the crazy, over-the-top mom that I am, I didn’t hesitate to make the dream a reality.”

She sent Ava and 2-year-old Lilly an invitation to their very own ball. The celebration would be held “in the royal living room,” which Janelle would transform into a space “fit for a princess!” “They both couldn’t believe it, and they spent all day wondering what the night would bring,” Janelle said. “My husband kept them busy with games and playing outside while I was setting up the room for the big reveal.”
